Silver Creek School Board reviews budget plan

SILVER CREEK – Members of the Silver Creek Board of Education heard a review of the budget Wednesday at their regular meeting in the high school conference room.

The 2013-14 spending plan will go before voters May 21. The $20.48 million budget is up 3.25 percent over the current budget and is expected to raise the tax rate by 62 cents per $1,000 of assessed value.

A hearing on the budget will be held at 7 p.m. April 10 in the high school library.

In May, district voters also will be filling two open seats on the board – one for the five-year term currently held by Greg Cole, who was appointed, and the second for a one-year term that was held by Amy Chavez, who recently resigned.

Petitions for candidates for the board are available in the district offices. They must be completed by April 22 and turned over to the district clerk for review.

In other business, the board appointed Mike Kempster to a probational position as technology coordinator.

Other appointments include: John Shepard and Thomas Woodward as bus drivers; Wendy Daniels as a volunteer in the modified softball program; Sidney Steeprock as a volunteer assistant coach for lacrosse; Katharine Meister as a tutor for home instruction; and Kaleigh Vogan as a substitute teacher.

The resignation of nurse Charity Pawlak was accepted.

Board members agreed to recognize the organization of a parents booster club for girls junior varsity and varsity softball.
