A Buffalo man was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing into a motorcyclist on Main Street during early Saturday, Amherst police said.

The motorcyclist, Joshua D. Karczewski, 31, of Clarence, suffered a leg injury and was taken to Erie County Medical Center, police said. He was listed in serious condition, a hospital official said.

The driver of the car, Patrick H. Burke, 48, also was charged with vehicular assault and failure to yield the right of way, according to Lt. Tracy Martin. The crash occurred about 2:09 a.m. on Main at Spindrift Drive.

Karczewski was riding a 2008 Yamaha east on Main when he was struck at the intersection by the 2002 Lincoln LS driven by Burke, Martin said.

The Amherst Police Accident Investigation Unit is continuing the investigation.
