The 23rd annual Artie Awards, a fundraiser and award ceremony that serves as Buffalo’s answer to the Tony Awards, was held on Monday night in the Town Ballroom.
The ceremony was hosted by its founder, Artvoice theater writer Anthony Chase and actors Charmagne Chi and Amy Jakiel. Along with an original spoof on the opening number of “The Book of Mormon,” the evening featured performances from nominated shows “The Music Man,” “Next to Normal,” “The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” “Knuffle Bunny” and “ ’S Wonderful: The New Gershwin Musical.” The annual career achievement award went to O’Connell and Company founder Mary Kate O’Connell.
