LOCKPORT – The Niagara County Board of Elections on Thursday invalidated an election petition, which led county Democrats to demand a criminal investigation of Republican County Legislature Clerk Mary Jo Tamburlin.
The petition sought to create a write-in primary on the Working Families Party line for 5th District county legislator. Tamburlin gathered the signatures on behalf of the write-in effort sought by former Legislator Giulio G. Colangelo, an Independence Party member endorsed by the GOP, who is running against Democratic incumbent Jason A. Zona.
Democrats gathered affidavits from three signers to show that Tamburlin allegedly wrote in the wrong dates for their signatures and then notarized the false results.
