The Buffalo Sabres have designated nine of their 41 home games as Value games for the 2013-14 season, including the return of Lindy Ruff with his new team, the Dallas Stars.
Three of the first four home games, in fact, are Value games, with ticket prices ranging from $31-$118. Games against Tampa Bay on Oct. 8, Columbus Oct. 10 and Dallas Oct. 14 are Value games.
Of the remaining games, eight are classified as Gold ($64-$185), 13 Silver ($53-$146), 10 Bronze ($39-$127) and one Platinum, Nov. 29 against Toronto ($80-$240).
Individual game tickets will go on sale Sept. 14 at 9 a.m.
The Sabres also announced the signing of forward Corey Tropp to a one-year contract. Tropp, 24, was hurt in the season opener for the Rochester Americans last season and played in just six games for the Amerks with two goals and two assists. Tropp had three goals and five assists in 34 games with the Sabres in 2011-12.
Now the team is hoping to put the focus back on the ice instead of the boardrooms and message boards.
The Coyotes completed an arduous process to find an owner Monday, when IceArizona completed its purchase of the franchise from the NHL.
The new ownership group has already loosened the purse strings with the signing of free-agent forward Mike Ribeiro and has vowed to give the team more financial flexibility.
The owners also will focus on expanding the fan base and increasing the team’s marketing efforts, which had been limited while it was run by the NHL the past four years.
Dave Goetze, a friend of Burr’s, says Burr was making progress in a fight against leukemia, but he died from brain trauma after a fall at his Detroit-area home. Goetze has worked for the Shawn Burr Foundation in support of blood cancer research.
Burr was a first-round draft pick by the Red Wings in 1984. He made his NHL debut in 1984-85 and was with the Red Wings until 1995. He also played for the Tampa Bay Lightning and San Jose Sharks.
In 878 NHL games, Burr scored 181 goals with 259 assists and 1,069 penalty minutes.
