Belmont Housing Resources for Western New York has received a $50,000 grant to help create greener, safer and healthier homes in the City of Buffalo.
The grant, from the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo, will fund a community-educator position in conjunction with the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative in the city.
With the help of the foundation, Buffalo was selected as one of 15 U.S. cities participating in the public-private partnership to repair and improve aging housing in economically challenged communities.
“The goal is to create greener, safer and healthier homes,” stated Elizabeth Huckabone, Belmont Housing president. “Our community educator will work proactively and directly with individuals and families on issues such as lead-hazard abatement, weatherization, asthma control and other housing-related health issues in low-income homes.”
