FREDONIA – Concerns about low water pressure in recently installed lines were brought to the attention of the Pomfret Town Board on Wednesday.
Representatives of Wendel, an engineering and architectural firm, told Town Board members that they are aware of about six homes with a low water pressure.
The representatives said that pumps are being considered as an alternative.
Residents said they knew that some of their neighbors had reconnected their wells because of the problem.
Supervisor Don Steger said an engineering recommendation on the low water pressure may be available at the Sept. 11 meeting.
Water lines are being installed along Route 20 and to some connecting roads.
The board will consider extensions of the water lines this fall.
A resident of Farrell Road said she would like her neighborhood to be considered for municipal water under the new district.
The water line project has also included the installation of 65 new fire hydrants.
In other matters, Deputy Supervisor Patricia Christina presented a resolution to be sent to the county executive asking that transportation of wastewater from hydrofracking be prohibited on county roads. The motion was defeated by a 3-2 vote.
It was agreed to present the resolution again with more general changes regarding transportation issues.
Highway Superintendent Daniel Bigelow asked that the board consider a petition from residents of Concord Road for a reduction in the speed limit. The board agreed to forward the issue to Chautauqua County for further study.
Board members asked attorney Jeffrey Passafaro to look into the complaint of a water main break on Route 83. Issues about the location of the line and the classification of the line as a service line or transmission line were not determined.
Passafaro agreed to research the matter and report back to the board.
A public hearing was scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 11 to consider a resolution to override the state’s imposed property tax cap.
A second public hearing will be held at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 11 to consider a local law requiring back-flow prevention valves on customers connecting to the public water system.
