Hamburg Town Board members will conduct a special meeting at 8 a.m. Thursday in Town Hall, 6100 South Park Ave., to award bids for the “quiet zone” railroad crossings on Rogers and Cloverbank roads.

Devices will be installed to keep traffic in the appropriate lane, prohibiting a vehicle from driving around a lowered crossing gate at the CSX and Norfolk Southern lines. Then trains will be prohibited from using their horns within the quiet zone except in an emergency.

As part of the project, Erie County required the Town of Hamburg to take ownership of Rogers Road so it could install the supplemental safety measures. The county repaved the road, and the Town Board Monday night formally accepted the 2-mile long road from Lake Shore Road to Pleasant Avenue, as a town road.
