Kaleida Health said today that three developers responded to its request for proposals, which was re-issued in July to 59 developers, following the failure of the previous plan for the property.
That proposal, advanced by Chason Affinity, called for a veterinary school in the facility, but Chason could not recruit DeVry University’s Ross School of Veterinary Medicine as planned.
Kaleida did not identify any of the three developers, but Uniland spokeswoman Jill Pawlik confirmed that the Amherst-based company is one of them. Uniland had lost out to Chason Affinity in the original process, and she said the company resubmitted the same proposal. ”This project aligns with Uniland’s mission to build a better community,” she said. “Kaleida can be confident in our proposal due to our reputation for results.”
Uniland had proposed a six-story apartment building, two-story townhouses, underground parking, boutique hotel and office and retail space.
Kaleida said it will now “study the responses, meet with the developers and interview each of the respective teams regarding their proposed development projects.”
The region’s largest hospital system is also initiating a similar reuse process for Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, which plans to move from its longtime Bryant Street home to a new building on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus in 2016. Kaleida expects to issue a request for proposals for development rights to the old Children’s site in early 2014.
After that, Kaleida said in a release, the system can “move forward with its core mission, which is improving the health of our community, while those who specialize in real estate matters can address the respective properties’ redevelopment.”
