For the second time this year, City of Tonawanda residents overwhelmingly approved the sale of the former Central School building. The sale was approved by a vote of 180 to 78 in a special referendum Tuesday.
The building and adjacent parking lot is being sold for $165,000 to Hunt and Associates, which may utilize the property for either residential apartments or a community center. District officials expect the sale to close in the next 60 days.
Central School, which has been unused for academics for more than a decade, was previously sold to developer David Capretto earlier this year for $220,000. Voters approved the deal in May, but the developer backed out over the summer.
