Frustrations ran high in Newstead Monday night, as residents who live near Braun’s Concert Cove again voiced their displeasure with the board for taking too long with the amendment to the Special Event Law.
At the last board meeting, residents asked the board to place a moratorium on issuing special event permits until the amendments were passed. They were back Monday night to see what progress the board had made toward doing that.
“Did you make the moratorium that we asked for?,” asked Quarry Hill resident Linda Jackson.
“No, there is no moratorium that has been made,” replied Supervisor David Cummings.
Jackson asked Cummings why it had not been put in place since the board had two weeks to agree on passing a moratorium, she said.
“We have not met in two weeks,” Cummings said. “We have not met since last meeting and there is no moratorium. That’s the answer.”
Dick Sutton, also from Quarry Hill, said the process has been dragging on for too long.
“It’s time for you guys…to do something right here in Newstead for the people,” he said.
The same things are being said over and over in every meeting, Cummings said.
“Well, you’re not going to get it done until you start working on it and do something about it,” Sutton said.
Cummings said he took “offense” to the comment, adding that the board is “working on it.”
Cummings said that although he does most of the talking during the board meetings, there are four other board members who are involved in making the decisions.
“If I get a little frustrated up here, I feel that maybe sometimes that’s earned and sometimes it’s not,” he said. “I’m supposed to take it, but there are times where your concerns, and I understand your concerns, are that we’re not trying to do something, and we are. Most things take longer than you want.”
The board would like to have another public hearing on the amendment within the first two months of the new year, Cummings said.

• Two public hearings were set for the next board meeting on Monday, Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. at Newstead Town Hall, 5 Clarence Center Road, Akron. The first, at 7:50 p.m., will be on the proposed expansion of Green Kangaroo Self Storage located at 13399 Main Road. The second hearing, at 7:55 p.m., will seek public input on amendments to clarify code enforcement and the approval process.
