Metro Rail will extend service an additional two hours on Tuesday, New Year’s Eve, to accommodate passengers attending the annual First Night celebration downtown and the ball drop at Roosevelt Square, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority announced.

The last train is scheduled to leave Erie Canal Harbor Station, heading to the University Station, at 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Train service will run continuously, making stops at all stations during the extended hours, the authority said. Trains will be on 20-minute intervals, with special trains intermingled as needed. However, the authority said it may be necessary to suspend service for a time because of the anticipated large crowd near the track by Roosevelt Square.
