It won’t exactly be pond hockey, but the Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament will be played on ice next Saturday – on nine artificial ice rinks being built on Erie Basin Marina land.
Tournament officials this morning announced their switch to Plan B, to keep the hockey players on ice. Those officials stressed they had to make the switch, given the unseasonably warm winter weather that has threatened the 12 inches of ice needed for safe pond-hockey play.
Rink construction already is under way and will continue throughout the week, Labatt officials said.
