SALAMANCA – The assessor’s office in the City of Salamanca has become a busy place, at least busy enough to add staff, according to the Common Council.
The Council on Wednesday night created part-time account clerk-typist positions that are to be filled for up to 20 hours a week to help out the office, currently staffed by only the assessor.
The city also adopted the Cattaraugus County Secondhand Dealer Law, which requires that such dealers hold purchased items for a minimum of seven days and maintain detailed sales records. The measure was instituted to allow police a better chance of recovering property that may be stolen.
The law was adopted by the Cattaraugus County Legislature in June and has been adopted by many municipalities throughout the county since then, including the City of Olean.
In other action, the Council:
• Approved paying the county $5,234.18 for aerial spraying of insecticide, if needed. If there is no need for the spraying in the coming year, the funds would remain in the general fund.
• Approved renewal of an agreement with Building Controls and Services Inc. for the maintenance of the heating and air-conditioning system in the Municipal Building. The six-month contract will cost $3,425.
• Approved a resolution to prohibit parking along the north side of Cross Street, from Columbia Avenue to Central Avenue, because of safety concerns about traffic flow and plowing.
The Council’s next meeting is set for 7 p.m. March 27 in the Courtroom of the Municipal Building, 225 Wildwood Ave.
