Village residents are being asked to cast their ballots for election to local offices in communities all over Western New York today.
Many polling places are open from noon to 9 p.m., but check with your local village hall for details.
In Erie County, a number of villages have hotly contested races, including Lancaster, where residents will see a choice on their ballot for election to the Village Board for the first time since 1997.
The Village of Alden has six candidates vying for three trustee seats.
In Niagara County, the mayor’s seats are up for grabs in both the villages of Barker and Wilson.
In Wilson, Deputy Mayor Bernard Leiker and Trustee Gerard Kadryna have composed a two-man board since former Mayor Patrick Kelahan resigned last fall.
Both are running for the open mayor’s seat.
In other counties, village voters in Elba and Corfu will choose mayors in contested elections.
In Attica, incumbent Democrat William Lepsch and Republican Trustee Chris Van Son are vying for the mayor’s job, seeking the two-year position.
Among the contested races in Cattaraugus County is the mayoral race in Gowanda between Peter P. Johnson and Heather M. McKeever.
